Did you know: Flash fiction is a genre of fiction, defined as a very short story. While there is no set word count that separates flash fiction from more traditional short stories, flash fiction stories can be as short as a few words (while short stories typically run for several pages)
In an instant, the end of the barrel lit up red, yellow, and green, the searing projectile ripping into its target as a plume of smoke drifted up from the end of the gun. Brett had seen none of this, but now he crumpled to the floor, and breathed his last.
It had been over in a flash, that one moment where you see your life passing before your eyes, only he had not, there had been no time at all, all now was darkness, no thoughts, no memories, no dreams. Floating through the endless void, a great nothingness, this was not how it was supposed to be at all, this was purgatory.
As they stood on the beach, hand in hand, watching the sun set, the romance had blossomed into love, despite their religious differences.
But it was short lived, the sun turned black, a thousand lights flashed in the night sky and he was gone. This was her moment of realisation, of understanding and, too late for her, belief.
Lucy let out a scream, but it was too late, the blood was already trickling down her neck.
Ulric licked his lips, “ahh delicious”.
The great engines rumbled and died; the ship now as quiet on the inside as it was from space. The flashing lights, shooting sparks and smoke billowing from various vents were indeed cause for alarm.
If there had been any intelligent life on the planet below, it would have looked up into the night sky and wondered what all the drama was. But there was not, and so the ship sat silently in orbit, like a beached whale.
